First limited edition, only printing. Deluxe state, number 12 out of 75 copies. Hardcover, 23,2 x 15,4 cm, 310 numbered pages. Publisher’s burgundy half morocco, marbled paper boards, spine lettered in gilt, single gilt rule on covers, brown endpapers. In the publisher’s burgundy cloth slipcase featuring author’s name printed in gilt and without dustjacket as issued.
CONDITION: as new, still in shrink-wraps.
PROVENANCE: purchased from the American collector Paul Ford in 2009.
Published in December 2005, in a limited print run of 75 copies, at $395.
The book’s publication, originally scheduled for May, 2005 was delayed until December. According to the proof copy of a promotional pamphlet issued by the publisher the number of copies originally planned was 100. This was later lowered to 75. COLLECTING TOPICS: given the small limitation, copies in deluxe state are scarce. Rare Book Hub lists four copies at auction, priced from $2,250 to $3,125 (this last, sold by Pba Galleries in 2021, before McCarthy’s death and the consequent prices hike). As of January 2025, there were three copies only listed on the web. One, additionally inscribed by dustjacket designer Chip Kidd, was priced at $8.800. The other two were offered, respectively, for $6,000 and 7,000. Only the latter was still sealed in shrink-wrap.
